The Barn is a converted stone barn attached to the owners’ traditional 17th century farmhouse. It is furnished to the highest standard.
The sitting room is upstairs to take full advantage of the views, and it has a small south-facing balcony.
Visitors have full use of informal gardens and furniture, fields and woodland.
We welcome up to two well-behaved dogs. This is sheep country; please accept that your dogs need to be under close control.
Ladthwaite is a remote former upland livestock smallholding and extends to around 40 acres. The farm is now managed under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.
The majority of land is traditional upland hay meadow which is cut in July, and leased for sheep grazing in late summer. There is a substantial area of woodland and several ungrazed areas that are managed as wildlife habitats.
The farm is bounded by dry stonewalls and hedgerows.
Ladthwaite Beck creates a river wildlife corridor through the main meadow.
There is an enclosed area with an informal garden and pond, and an organic vegetable garden.
The old sheep pens at the back of the buildings are now part of the walled garden.
